Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Bell Gardens Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Elite-compatible keypads, intercom panels, and receiver boards for most residential Elite gate operators, with typical repair jobs in Bell Gardens running $220 to $480 installed. Most Elite keypad and intercom failures can be diagnosed and fixed in one visit, because we keep common Elite parts on the truck. The usual story we hear starts the same way: the gate worked fine for years, then one morning the keypad lit up but wouldn’t take a code, or the intercom handset went quiet, or the gate only opens with the clicker. If that’s where you are, this page tells you exactly what’s involved, what it costs, and what we do about it.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

This repair coverage applies to the residential Elite lines most common in Bell Gardens: the SL-3000 and SL-2000 slide gate operators, and the CSW-200 swing gate series. These are the workhorses we see on older Bell Gardens homes, many of them installed 15 to 25 years ago and still running. Elite also produced the Miracle series, but those are less common in our area. The keypad and intercom components we replace include the Elite keypad transmitters, the wireless receiver boards inside the operator cabinet, and the wired intercom stations mounted at the driveway pedestal.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of homeowners: an Elite keypad made before roughly 2008 runs on older receiver frequencies, and a newer Elite keypad won’t always talk to it. We check the operator’s birthdate (there’s a date stamp on the circuit board, and a model plate on the chassis) before we quote a replacement. We only use OEM Elite parts, or tried-and-tested equivalents that we’ve installed enough times in the Bell Gardens heat to trust. Aftermarket universal keypads exist, but they’re not in our trucks. Why? Because a universal receiver usually lasts two or three years in direct southern California sun before the buttons get spongy and the range drops. We’d rather install the right part once.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • Keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is sending a signal, but the receiver board inside the operator isn’t hearing it. Usually the receiver board is dying, or the keypad’s code memory has been wiped. Either way, we can test it on-site.
  • Some buttons work, others need three or four hard presses. The membrane contacts inside the keypad corrode over time, especially in a coastal climate. Bell Gardens humidity and heat cycles are rough on those rubber-backed buttons. A worn membrane is a replace-the-part situation, not a clean-it-and-hope situation.
  • The intercom handset buzzes or is silent when someone presses the call button at the gate. The cable between the driveway pedestal and the house takes the damage. Older Bell Gardens homes often have the wire run through buried conduit that’s now 20 years past its useful life. If the wire tests bad, we run a new run.
  • The gate opens randomly, or only opens from the house but not the keypad. Random opening is often a failing receiver board picking up stray signals. Only-opens-from-the-house means the keypad transmitter itself is dead. Victor Salinas has replaced enough of these to tell the difference in about five minutes.
  • Code works, but only when you’re standing three feet away. Range failure. The keypad’s antenna or transmitter output is fading. A new keypad fixes it, and it’s a straightforward swap.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Bell Gardens, expect to pay between $220 and $480 installed for most Elite keypad or intercom repairs. A simple keypad replacement is usually at the lower end. A full intercom pedestal with a new keypad, receiver board, and wiring repair lands at the upper end. Every quote is settled before we start. You’ll know the parts cost and the labor cost, line by line, and the number we agree on is the number on the invoice.

Repair Typical Installed Range
Elite keypad replacement (transmitter only) $220 - $320
Receiver board replacement inside operator $300 - $450
Intercom handset or pedestal station replacement $260 - $400
Full keypad + receiver + intercom refresh $420 - $480+

Every job is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise, in writing. If it’s not right, we come back and make it right. No paperwork, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things you can safely check yourself. First, make sure the operator itself has power and that no breaker is tripped. Second, check whether your clicker still opens the gate. If the clicker works but the keypad doesn’t, the problem is almost certainly the keypad or the receiver board, and that’s where we’d step in.

The electrical part of this work is low voltage, but it’s still wired into a motor controller, and the operator cabinet carries 120-volt line voltage inside it. A wrong wire landed on the wrong terminal can fry a $400 board in half a second. We’ve seen it happen to homeowners who watched a video and saved $300 only to spend $700. The honest call: if it’s a keypad or intercom, call us at (213) 497-0081. We tell you what it needs, we fix what we said we’d fix. That’s the whole job.
